Meet Danielle Bartholomew
From Grenada! We are happy to present the co-founder of STEM Caribbean , Danielle Bartholomew! (STEM Caribbean Media is in partnership with STEM Caribbean) Danielle attended St. Joseph's Convent, St. George's, and T.A. Marryshow Community College in Grenada before migrating to the United States to pursue a career in neurosurgery in 2014. Her passion for physics motivated her to first obtain a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering as a plan B. By the time she completed the first semester of the mechanical engineering program at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), she decided to pursue a career in engineering instead of medicine.
In 2015, she went on to apply for the competitive Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program established by US the Department of Defense to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing technical degrees in STEM disciplines. She became the first SMART scholar at NYIT in 2016. Then in 2018, she graduated summa cum laude from NYIT with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a minor in mathematics. She plans to obtain a professional engineering license in the future, and further her studies and career in mechanical engineering and research.
In 2013, she co-founded STEM Caribbean, the first news platform in the Caribbean, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math in the Caribbean and the world. Co-founding this platform sparked her interest in journalism and entertainment.
