Meet Xavier Moonan
From Trinidad and Tobago! Meet Xavier Moonan! He has a Bachelor’s in Geology from the University of the West Indies – Mona campus in Jamaica and a Master’s of Structural Geology with Geophysics from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. He is the recipient of a Fellowship Scholarship from the Organization of American States, a Petrotrin Corporate Scholarship and a “Top 10 Presentation Award” at the AAPG Internation Conference & Exhibition in Milan, Italy 2011.
His professional experience includes work with Petrotrin, Geoservices Schlumberger and Centrica Energy. He currently lectures at the Petroleum Geoscience programme, UWI St Augustine where he is also reading his PhD in Structural Geology and works as a Senior Geoscientist with Touchstone Exploration. .
Xavier served as a Region Delegate and Treasurer for the AAPG Latin America & Caribbean Region and currently holds the post of Vice President. He served as President of the Geological Society of Trinidad & Tobago (GSTT) and as Convener of the 20th Caribbean Geological Conference and AAPG Geosciences Technology Workshop Trinidad & Tobago events held in Port of Spain in 2015, AAPG GTW Guyana in 2017 and the upcoming GTW Suriname 2019. Xavier is also a member of the SPE, EAGE, Geological Society of America and the Houston Geological Society.
Xavier is a strong advocate of student activities and serves as an AAPG’s Visiting Geoscientist, meeting with and lecturing various student groups in universities and high schools, promoting geoscience and nuturing the next generation geoscientists.
